ADA parking compliance is a term used to describe the guidelines set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for parking spaces.
These guidelines require that parking spaces be accessible to individuals with disabilities, and include features such as designated parking spots, ramps, and signage.
If a business is not ADA compliant, they may be subject to legal penalties. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is responsible for enforcing the ADA and can file lawsuits against businesses that are not in compliance. Businesses that are found to be in violation of the ADA may be required to pay fines, make changes to their facilities, or both.

Challenge
Solution
Top Job Asphalt worked Monday through Thursday for two weeks to get this job accomplished without hindering customer access to the store. The parking lot was carefully split into 4 sections, with parking, deliveries, ADA access, trailer/ pro parking, and general access in mind. Top Job worked daily with store managers to ensure unforeseen issues could be handled quickly, and some small modifications to the phasing plan were made to better accommodate the stores needs.
A major issue was encountered on the first day of paving. The asphalt matte was struggling to meet compaction, even with multiple rollers working full time. It was discovered that the ½” mix design approved by the engineer actually contained some ¾” rock, which was not allowing proper compaction of the 2” overlay. Top Job immediately got to work finding solutions. A new mix design was submitted and approved by the engineer, and Top Job rented a huge roller, designed for paving roads. Needless to say no additional compaction issues were encountered for the remainder of the project.
The timeframe on this project was extremely aggressive, in order to minimize lost revenue. Mondays and Wednesdays were milling and prep, and paving was performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Milling was struggling to keep to the timeframe, so a night shift was scheduled, which enabled the crews to stay on track.
